Creation of Children Friendly Environment in Schools of Maliba and Kitswamba Sub Counties

Schools have a lot of gaps that lead to violence against children both directly and indirectly. RIDE AFRICA has addressed the gaps by promotion of sanitation and hygiene through the provision of soap, liquid soap, toilet brushes and gloves, motivation and promoting teachers and children relationships through provision of sports equipment like skipping ropes, netballs and foot balls and also promotion of school bi laws which are friendly to the children like providing fun and educative punishments. This has enabled to raise the number of attendance of the children in the four schools, promoted the children’s talents in schools hence prevention of violence against children in the four schools of Kitswamba and Maliba sub counties.

Retooling of Children Rights Ambassadors to Prevent Violence against Children in Maliba and Kitswamba Sub Counties

Strengthening and retooling of 40 children rights ambassadors was key in the promotion of children's rights and responsibilities, strengthening of reporting systems of child abusers and prevention of violence against children in homes, schools and communities in Kitswamba and Maliba sub counties. This is done through offering counseling services to broken marriages, offering good parenting skills to families, working along with the local leaders like community development officers for referrals from the different villages and making follow-ups. This has strengthened the prevention of violence against children in both maliba and Kitswamba sub counties as seen through the month updates made.

Improved living standards of the women through CBOs of Maliba and Kitswamba

Women in the identified CBOs in the communities of Maliba and Kitswamba have improved their living standards through their supported initiatives identified by RIDE AFRICA. Following the previous basket making skills, the groups have managed to make profits which are borrowed by the women to pay school fees, other scholastic materials and provide a balanced diet for the children. In addition, the group was given skills of making art and craft wallets and table cloths. ‘ …….am happy that the skills provided to us have improved our living standards hence  preventing  violence against children and adolescents in Maliba sub county……….says Mary the chair person of Kakindo women group.
