Executive Director's Brief Statement

Ride Africa continues to advocate for the promotion of women and children’s rights in the 5 districts (Kabarole, Kyenjojo, Kamwenge, Ntoroko, Kyegegwa and Kasese) of Rwenzori Sub region of Uganda.

Ongoing activities form the foundation on which scaling up and innovation towards Human Rights be supported.

We continue to prioritize on existing program activities and networks of partners to support community work especially value based HIV prevention interventions in Ntoroko district, Human Rights Advocacy

Democracy and Good Governance in Kamwenge district, Gender and Development, Research and Documentation in Kasese district based on peace, conflicts and justice and ICT integration in community development.

Ride Africa’s strategic focus is geared towards promoting the respect and protection of rights of vulnerable women and children’s fostering their capacity and skills to make positive decisions on social development choices with regard to the following 6 themes. There are;

• To increase the capacity of vulnerable communities to articulate and demand their rights and entitlements.

• To promote and protect Children’s Rights through civic education

• To enhance capacities of the community to advocate and monitor social service delivery.

• To increase environment awareness and conservation practices among communities.

• To strengthen capacity of RIDE Africa staff to effectively and efficiently fulfill its vision.

• To integrate and promote sectoral innovation and output through ICT.

This report highlights several interventions and key successes relating to the thematic areas. Our interventions are holistic addressing physical, mental, emotional, spiritual needs and human rights of our beneficiaries.

This year we have started or continued a journey to extend HIV services in Ntoroko districts, have extend youth focus projects for youth in action and youth empowerment scheme in the same district whereas we want enhance children rights governance geared towards retarding children vulnerability to nature. In another context 131,059 individuals (50,817 male and 53,682 female) who are supported everyday to lead healthy and proactive life styles. The journey is a complex but an ongoing process. This journey requires partnership to harness basic human values such as voluntarism, service above self, team work, equity and transparence.

Despite low funding due to increased competition, we continue to consolidate our efforts in all parts of the Rwenzori region through our branch offices in Ntoroko, Kamwenge, Kyenjojo and Fort Portal

Our efforts for 2015 will focus on child rights governance through child rights impact assessments, support the children’s councils and parliaments in lobbying and advocacy initiatives based on identified priorities based on child rights governance collaboration clusters.

Establishment of HIV/AIDS, Malaria and TB Clinic in Fort Portal at Bukwali planned site. The Clinic will have capacity to admit and monitor 467,000 patients in 8 Districts of Rwenzori Sub Region of Uganda. Ride Africa has spent 19 years on prevention programs on disease control. Based on the experience on community behaviors Ride Africa Seeks to start Treatment program to control HIV margin in Uganda.

Finally I wish to extend my appreciation to our donors who have made us reach the most vulnerable individuals in the most hard to reach areas.
